Star Series

Preparing for Conversations with an AOK Panel
A Roundtable of AOK/Delphi Summit Speakers

  Introduction

Unexpected complications involving client work for one of Hubert Saint-Onge's projects resulted in a last-minute postponement of his appearance as STAR Series moderator;and, an opportunity for AOK to bring some of its most outstanding knowledge practitioners to the STAR Series podium -- just two weeks before they assemble as breakout speakers at the AOK/Delphi Enterprise Learning and Knowledge Exchange Summit, March 13-15 in Palm Springs, California, U.S.

Among them are:

  Carl FrappaoloCarl Frappaolo

Of course, most AOKers remember Carl, co-founder and EVP of the Delphi Group, STAR Series moderator for July, 2001, frequent contributor to subsequent discussions and key player in the AOK/Delphi partnership. Carl is doing three presentations at the Summit, but we thought he might focus in the STAR Series discussion on his topic -- Myths and Realtities of Portalizing Knowledge.

  Noreen KellyNoreen Kelly

Noreen has been instrumental in the roll out of Baxter Healthcare's content management (CM) tool. She realized early on in her Web development project that CM is a bigger project than just choosing and installing new software. In this STAR Series discussion, and at her presentation in Palm Springs, she will discuss how she facilitated change through building awareness, understanding, and acceptance of the new CM tool. Noreen is also co-editor of the AOK Knowledge Strategy EZine.

  Fred Schoeps

Fred was corporate training KM program manager for IBM until he recently retired early. Since then he has become a world class volunteer, including his work with AOK as one of two Q&A reporters for the new Leading Lights series and asFred Schoeps keynoter for AOK's Work(Fun)Shop, part of the Thursday agenda for the AOK/Delphi Summit. While at IBM, he developed and used a fun tool for communicating the KM philosophy and that will be the substance of his presentation. The KM Game is about creating connections between people by making visible what they already know about KM to others, what they know they don't know, and what they don't know that they don't know. By collecting KM enablers, sharing these, teaming with others to get complete -- the game is about how tightly KM is already part of our lives and work -- why it is a journey -- not a destination -- and will require "we" centered working and traveling together and letting go of the "I, me, mine" trinity.

  Srinivasa MurtySrinivasa Murty

Srini is coming all the way from Mumbai, Maharastra, India specifically to speak at this conference and will be part of our STAR Series roundtable. At Hindustan Lever Limited he developed a "Consumer Windows" program to engage customers in knowledge initiatives. The four windows are: knowledge repositories, direct consumer contact, working with customers and interaction with external specialists. Workshops develop innovation ideas based on knowledge gained from these four windows.

  Carol TuckerCarol Tucker

Carol, our "stealth KMer" and the other reporter for AOK's new Leading Lights Series, will uncover the frustrations and rewards of working in the trenches of Maryland Permanent Bank and Trust Co. to implement knowledge management. She advocates online communities and collaboration for knowledge development as well as enterprise-wide employee participation in knowledge management initiatives. She doesn't call it "KM." In this session you will learn a solid and practical analysis of what has worked and what has not worked.

  Jack VinsonJack Vinson

Dr. Jonathan "Jack" Vinson is the knowledge manager for the BioPharma organization of Pharmacia, a group responsible for the development and manufacture of biologically based pharmaceuticals. Jack has been responsible for developing a knowledge management strategy for the organization, as a piece of the overall strategy at Pharmacia. From Jack you will learn how he used self-directed study and successful initiative to convince Pharmacia of the potential of knowledge management. Today he leads the program that combines an on-going knowledge audit with a top-level strategy review. He is also co-editor of the AOK Knowledge Architecture EZine.
